Innovative Projects and Technology

Innovative projects and technology puts state-of-the-art technology into our students’ learning experiences throughout the College of Health and Human Development. Updating and having the latest technology is an expense that state funding does not fully cover. This kind of support transforms our health and human service programs that rely heavily on having the most up-to-date technology comparable to what is used in hospitals, healthcare and wellness settings. Such technology includes robotic mannequins that can convey a host of realistic symptoms, as well as instrumentation that can read a person’s brain activity during exercise or, in the case of someone who has had a stroke, while performing simple tasks, along with drones that can capture student leaders running recreation and teambuilding programs. Bringing this kind of technology into our indoor and outdoor labs, places CSUN among the few universities making such learning experiences available. Staying ahead of technology makes CSUN a go-to destination for students worldwide. When graduates enter their professions, they are already steps ahead in their careers and in their ability to help others. Read more about these innovative opportunities below, and click the “Donate” button above to give to one of these funds.

  • Technology Upgrades for Labs in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences
The Department of Family and Consumer Science (FCS) strives to provide students not only knowledge from textbooks, but also solid training through hands-on experience in our labs. In order to keep students up to date with the most current technology in the industries, FCS is raising funds for technology upgrades for their six labs: Sewing Lab; Textiles Lab; The Family and Child Care Studies Center (Lab School); Interior Design Studios; Apparel Design and Merchandising; and The Kitchen, Food Science and Food Chemistry Labs. Guided by our outstanding faculty, your donation to the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences will elevate students’ laboratory learning experiences, bridge their learning with industry standards and prepare them to be the next generation of top designers, teachers, and nutritionists.

  • Specialized Exercise Equipment for Classrooms and Research in the Department of Kinesiology
Your support for the Department of Kinesiology will introduce kinesiology and athletic training students to technology widely used in our field. For example, in a classroom setting, students will have the opportunity to work with equipment that will help them assess muscle status, provide quantitative measures of net force as an estimate of muscle force, and practice CPR skills on robotic mannequins. Your donation to this fund will also help students performing research by providing Mindware and Gymware technology to track the autonomic system responses in dancers and athletes and examine the relationship between levels of physical activity/fitness, cognitive capacity and school performance in children and college age adults.

  • Simulation Lab Equipment Upgrades for the Department of Nursing
The Department of Nursing at CSUN is a training hub for nurses in the San Fernando Valley. By providing outstanding training and education, we have cultivated many nursing professionals who are dedicated to taking care of patients’ health. Our department is raising funds to advance our equipment and technologies in our simulation lab. Your donation to the Department of Nursing will be used to purchase simulators and medical devices, such as a new high-tech hospital bed and a stress electrocardiogram (ECG) machine. By providing solid, hands-on training with this equipment, we will empower our students to be competent and confident nurses in the future.
