The Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication is composed of six departments: Art, Cinema and Television Arts, Communication Studies, Journalism, Music, and Theatre. These departments are the core of our activities and academic mission.
Donations of unrestricted funds allow the Dean and the departments to work smoothly, foster innovation, and provide the opportunity for growth. They unlock potential and allow the faculty and staff to do what they’re best at, empowering student success. They also help the departments weather crises without losing momentum.
Giving to a department in an unrestricted way allows the chair and faculty to determine the best use of the funds within the priorities for the department as related to current needs and opportunities. These might include immediate needs like technology or materials, strategic scholarships, research opportunities for faculty or graduate students, travel and expenses related to event or conference opportunities for faculty, staff, or students, or emergency grants to help students in need stay enrolled. As we know from recent events, change can come quickly and the agility of unrestricted funds allows the departments to respond in a timely manner.

- Dean’s Fund
The Dean’s Fund allows the Dean to be a pacesetter, staying ahead of evolving needs and pursuing new initiatives as they arise. It enables the Dean to jump-start an initiative or further invest in ways that are impactful for students, like support for the student-run creative agency, IntersectLA, critical equipment upgrades, or special touring opportunities in Theatre and Music. - Department of Art
This fund lets the Art Department respond to current opportunities and needs. Use can range from operational expenses to faculty and student support, such as purchasing new animation or VFX software. - Department of Cinema and Television Arts
Help to enhance the operations of one of our most-awarded departments to meet their shifting needs, like the recent acquisition of an LED Virtual Production Wall. - Department of Communication Studies
You can help meet the most pressing needs of the department like sending Matador Speech and Debate Team students to Nationals or supporting Career Coaches to help students plan for their path after graduation. - Department of Journalism
This fund supports an array of activities that might include sending a student to report on an important event or purchasing a necessary piece of equipment for the TV News Broadcast studio. - Department of Music
Help the department meet expenses that might arise such as repairing a French horn, refurbishing a piano, or supporting a unique opportunity like hosting the ChamberFest at CSUN. - Department of Theatre
An unrestricted fund for the department that can be used strategically and allow a creative responsive to current times, such as staging an opera on the Manzanita Lawn during the slow return to live performances following COVID shutdowns.
