In the Curb College, scholarships are among our most valuable resources. These important and transformational funds allow students more equitable access to their educational goals and provide the resources that allow them to focus more time on their school work and artistic pursuits.
Current CSUN tuition and fees come to slightly more than $7,000 annually. Adding other relevant expenses (rent, meals, books, laptop, transportation, parking, etc.), we estimate the total cost of attendance to be approximately $20,000 (if living at home with parents), $24,000 (living on campus), or $32,000 (living off campus) each year. Federal, state, and university support only goes so far and the average student has between $5,000 and $6,000 in unmet need annually.
This is where scholarships can have the most impact. They help reduce the financial burden on students so they can take a full course load and have more time to focus on their studies. By working less, they can also better engage with the campus (friends, professors, events, resources) which can often result in a greater sense of belonging and lead to higher rates of retention and degree completion. Merit based scholarships allow competitive department programs to recruit top talent or award exceptional scholarship.
As students are the core of our university and college mission, your support of their success through the funding of scholarships is one of the most transformational forms of investment in the success of these young artists, storytellers, academics and creatives.
