Matty's Closet

Confidence is essential when interviewing for a job, and feeling good about our appearance often boosts that confidence. Wearing a career-ready outfit can make all the difference in creating a strong first impression. However, for many students, expenses like tuition, rent, food, and transportation make purchasing quality interview attire difficult. Matty’s Closet empowers students to make a winning impression with the right attire

Matty’s Closet is an on-campus program where students can receive donated, new, and gently used work-ready clothing for career-related functions such as interviewing, a new job, conferences, etc. The generosity of CSUN’s staff, faculty, employer partners and the community helped the Career Center establish this necessary resource.

Students are provided one free career-ready outfit per semester setting them up for success and helping them look and feel their best. Join us in supporting and launching Matadors toward their career goals through Matty’s Closet.

Student Testimonials

Jessica, Psychology, Class of 2026

"I really enjoyed how the stylist knew what clothing I felt most comfortable in, and was willing to work with me when items didn't work out. She was inviting and gave great advice on how to further tailor my clothes if needed. She also made sure to share resources in terms of how often I can return to the closet. I did wear the clothes I received and aced my interview. I start my new job this Friday!"

Dulcemaria, History Four-Year Integrated Teaching, Class of 2028

"It was a wonderful experience picking out clothes that I felt confident and work-ready in! I really appreciated the size-inclusivity and willingness to help find the perfect fit and style. I also enjoyed the support and privacy I was given during the experience."

Vea, MPA, Class of 2025

"I am struggling with money right now so having free career clothes really helped, especially since I was attending some business professional events. I liked the guidance and helpfulness of the stylist too!"

Sergio, Pre-Finance, Class of 2028

"I checked in, and when ready I was called into the dressing room with a variety of clothes to choose from."

Jannatul, MS Business Analytics, Class of 2026

"Thank you for your service! It was a great help! I got a blazer and I am looking forward to getting a coat in my size next semester! The stylist is incredibly sweet!"
