Matador Mission: Continuing Student Scholarship

The Matador Mission Scholarships are CSUN’s bold, data-informed response — an investment in students who have the determination to succeed, but face financial constraints at critical junctures in their academic journey. With one of the highest numbers of Pell Grant recipients in the country (#2 in California, #5 among public institutions nationally), CSUN students demonstrate some of the greatest financial need — and the greatest potential impact from donor support.

Matador Mission Scholarships aim to eliminate the financial strain that so often can stand in the way of a college degree. Based on five years of financial aid data, the Matador Mission Scholarships are designed to deliver essential support when students need it most.

The Continuing Student Scholarship is designed to target the financial gap that exists for persisting students that face financial shortfalls despite receiving other types of financial aid. In 2025, more than half of CSUN students (21,402) received Pell grants. But with the maximum award only $7,395 — less than one-third the cost of attendance — our students must find other means to close the gap. In an effort to lighten the burden of outside work and reduce the need for costly loans, the Continuing Student Scholarship will offer $3,000 per year and be renewable for up to two additional years.
