Department of Linguistics/TESL

The department of Linguistics and TESL at CSUN is dedicated to student success and to advancing linguistic and cultural diversity as foundations of an equitable and inclusive society. We celebrate the diversity of languages and language learners while applying linguistic and educational research to language teaching, assessment, and curriculum development.

Your gift will support community engagement programs such as Sociolinguistics en la Comunidad, where our students partner with local junior high and high school students to explore sociolinguistic injustice and the value of linguistic diversity. It will also strengthen our programs in Teaching English as a Second Language and Computational Linguistics, which provide students with strong theoretical foundations and practical skills. Together, these programs allow students to apply linguistic knowledge to empower our students to make meaningful contributions to their communities.
