CSUN Housing Insecurity Fund

Your support will help us provide urgent emergency housing resources to students who are experiencing housing insecurity. Across the California State University system, it is estimated that more than 10% of college students are homeless or housing insecure, meaning they live out of a car, they “couch surf” with friends, or they sleep in a location not intended for living/safe dwelling.

Our goal is to ensure that students are able to focus on studies without the heavy burden of worrying about a safe space to sleep that evening. We know that relieving this worry will enable our students to achieve their ultimate academic goal – graduation!

CSUN engages multiple strategies to support students’ housing stability needs, including:

  • Campus-based emergency housing programs, where students can quickly access a safe, short-term living space at zero cost.
  • Emergency housing grants, which enable students to maintain their current housing arrangements
  • Low-cost/subsidized housing placements that provide students with long-term housing solutions in partnership with community-based organizations.

CSUN Housing Stability Care Coordinators work directly with students to facilitate access to these critical resources, engaging students using a holistic model tailored to students’ unique needs and with a sharp focus on students’ academic success.

During the 2023-2024 academic year, requests for Emergency Housing support by students increased substantially, with triple the number of students requesting emergency housing support compared to the year prior. With your donation, CSUN will be better positioned to meet this increased demand with innovative, effective strategies.
