University Student Union

The University Student Union (USU) at CSUN is a student-centered nonprofit organization that expands the Matador experience through its programs, services, employment and involvement opportunities.

Since 1973, both data and feedback from users have shown that USU programs support students in obtaining their academic degrees. As a co-curricular partner, the USU contributes to student success by being one of CSUN’s largest on-campus student employers. The USU brings emerging and mainstream events, thought-provoking speakers and learning experiences to students.

Matching its programming are facilities that house food options, study areas, a TV lounge and a 130-station computer lab with free printing. Visionary expansion and renovation efforts have added the Student Recreation Center, Pride Center, Veterans Resource Center, Oasis Wellness Center, and incorporated the DREAM Center into the USU’s cache of services.

The newest addition to the USU will be the Valera NEST, opening in 2025–2026. Formally known as the Basic Needs Suite, this renovated space will address basic needs, promoting synergy, collaboration and partnership between various campus resources while normalizing the experience of students who seek supportive resources.

Amid a growing necessity for student economic support, the USU Board of Directors has also gifted a number of Matadors-in-need with semester parking permits and holiday grocery gift cards.

Please join the University Student Union in its mission to uplift and empower students to achieve educational, personal and professional goals by providing leadership development, meaningful employment, and innovative programs, services and facilities. By becoming a donor, you connect with, and contribute to, an organization that supports students through graduation and prepares them for a demanding workforce. The USU achieves this work by promoting justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and well-being, while encouraging social justice advocacy to help Matadors feel heard, respected and connected to CSUN.
