The library is the heart of any academic institution. At CSUN, the University Library serves this role in a variety of ways. It is a gathering place for students to exchange ideas; a time machine for exploring other cultures, places and times through its physical and electronic collections; a quiet spot to study or research, and a hub for discovery through events and programming. Today’s libraries must also keep pace with the ways students and faculty absorb and learn information. In addition to the University Library’s 2.1 million books, it boasts 53,000 online journals; sound, film and video recordings; a manuscript collection and nearly 45,000 items housed in Special Collections. Librarians work closely with faculty to add and expand collections, databases, journals and books that support new curricula and prepare students for academic success.
Support of the University Library Excellence Fund allows the library to continue meeting the needs of students, faculty and the community by ensuring the nimbleness to purchase books, electronic resources, journals and other materials as needed. The fund also supports dynamic programming and initiatives that feed students’ curiosity for relevant topics, including the role of women in civic and community engagement, climate change, First Amendment rights, student scholarships, Black History Month and much more.
