The Asian American Studies Pathways Project (AASPP) at CSUN provides academic tools and resources for Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Desi-Americans (APIDA) to build community and succeed in higher academia. AASPP was founded in 2017 in response to decreasing APIDA enrollment and retention at CSUN and is the only student-led and student-funded organization dedicated to serving APIDA Matadors.
The COVID-19 pandemic and 200% increase in anti-Asian/Pacific Islander hate crimes and violence, has contributed to the steady decrease in APIDA student attendance and retention at CSUN. As a student-run resource for APIDA Matadors, AASPP seeks to address this by providing intentional programming, culturally-relative community organizing, and material support to our most vulnerable students to increase recruitment and retention.
AASPP is solely run by student interns from disciplines across CSUN, with the administrative support of a faculty coordinator from the Asian American Studies Department. AASPP’s ability to employ CSUN students is funded by students themselves via the Campus Quality Fee included in tuition, but your donations help expand AASPP’s capacity. Though we are funded by the Campus Quality Fee to pay our student interns’ wages, we depend on financial support from donors like you to provide all aspects involved in our programming.
Your donations will allow us to provide materials and academic support for CSUN students, as well as community events and student success workshops. Your contributions also help sustain our physical space at the Glenn Omatsu House.
