Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing

The Institute of Community Health and Wellbeing is a collaborative of campus and community members committed to enhancing the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, organizations and communities within CSUN's service region. The primary mission of the Institute is to foster and promote healthful living through community and campus partnerships.

Gifts to the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing allow the continuation of outreach opportunities for Centers and Institutes to broaden their connection to faculty, staff, students, and the larger community through a multitude of platforms and activities focused on wellness and mental health.

Your donations to the Institute also support the Patient Financial and Insurance Health Literacy Program.

The Patient Financial and Insurance Health Literacy Program is an innovative collaboration between the CSUN Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing, Departments of Health Sciences, and Family and Consumer Sciences. This transformative initiative is designed to enlighten and empower the local Spanish-speaking community, fostering a healthier and more informed future.

The primary objective is to educate the local Spanish-speaking community on the vital aspects of patient financial and insurance health literacy. Knowledge is the key to empowerment, and through targeted educational initiatives, this program aims to provide the tools necessary for individuals to make informed decisions about their healthcare.

In collaboration with the San Fernando Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), the Institute hosts engaging workshops tailored to the specific needs of the Spanish-speaking community. These workshops, conducted by experts from the Institute, will provide practical insights and valuable information, ensuring that community members are equipped to navigate the complexities of patient financial and insurance health literacy.

The Patient Financial and Insurance Health Literacy Program goes beyond community impact. It is an opportunity for graduate students in the Departments of Health Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences to collaborate on a meaningful project. Under the guidance of esteemed faculty members, students will contribute to the development and execution of the program, resulting in impactful graduate projects that make a real difference.

Be a part of this transformative initiative that transcends boundaries, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the lives of the Spanish-speaking community. Together, we can build a foundation of health literacy that empowers individuals to take control of their healthcare journey. Let's transform health literacy and make a lasting impact on our community together!
