CSUN in DC

In the CSUN in DC Internship Program, students live, work and learn for an entire semester or summer term in our nation’s capital. Students move to Washington, D.C.; intern with Capitol Hill offices, agencies, advocacy groups, nonprofits, museums, embassies or private firms, and take classes to continue making progress toward their degree. The program is open to all majors and it is truly a transformative experience for the roughly 35-45 students who participate each year.

Students in the CSUN in DC program secure internships tailored to their career goals so that they can develop as professionals, enhance their skills and begin to build their professional network. Students typically work 25-40 hours per week and receive mentoring from their internship site supervisor, as well as from faculty in Washington, D.C. In recent years, CSUN students have interned in a wide variety of offices, including:

  • Members of Congress
  • Federal agencies (such as Housing and Urban Development, Labor and Veterans Affairs
  • Nonprofits, advocacy organizations and think tanks (such as Human Rights Campaign, Center for American Progress and National Defense University)
  • Embassies
  • Private firms
  • Museums (including the National Museum of American History and the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage)

Nearly 350 students have participated over the years and the program continues to grow. The biggest obstacle to participation is the cost of housing and living expenses in Washington, D.C., so your gift can help provide scholarships, housing support and other essentials for students participating in this life-changing program.
