Disabilities Studies Minor

Understanding disability as an identity can enhance a student's success in a variety of professions. Legislation requires that every field operates on a solid foundation of equity, diversity, inclusion and access. CSUN’s Disability Studies minor, the first in the CSU, will explore the nature and meaning of disability across a broad range of academic, experiential, and societal perspectives. Students who graduate with a Disability Studies minor will develop deeper insights into the human condition and use more effective analytical and observation skills to ensure that disability is integrated into the fabric of society as a normative state of being instead of a deviant condition.

The interdisciplinary minor reaffirms CSUN's commitment to diversity by recognizing that diversity and equity necessarily includes disability. This course of study can enhance a student's career by preparing them to understand the nature of disabilities, the meaning of disability in our society, the social, political, and health implications of disability, and methods of making our society more inclusive to those who live with disabilities. The program also prepares students to work with individuals with disabilities in a variety of community settings.
